I will be constructively criticizing the event. No biases, even though organizers are still students and may or may not have experiencing in organizing events. These comments are entirely based on my personal observation and experience.
Firstly, there was no route/map given with the bib and not even posted in their page. ONLY the BIB (about half of a short bond paper[standard size]) was enclosed in a long brown envelope. Whats the for the huge space? It was quite a waste of resources. If the organizers had used the resources allocated for envelope and used a clip with a printed map, it would have been a better idea.
Second, the gun start was supposedly 6:00 am as per organizers' announcement. But was postponed somewhere between 6:20-6:40 am. As the host stated, it was delayed with the reason that the McKinley Security Group was performing last minute checks. I personally believe that this is not entirely true. Why? I saw the van which was supposed to deploy the marshals/photographers on the route, picked-up the first batch at around 6:00 am, and the second batch after a few minutes. This could be have done while waiting for the go signal of the security group.
Third, there was a doctor onsite. He gave a few reminders on what are the possible things to happen to a person while running such as hyperventilation, muscle spasms, sprains, etc. And gave instruction on what should be done in case these would happen.
Last, the marshals were very interactive and knowledgeable the route. In contrast with a few marshals from some of the previous events I have joined, some even don't know the route and would tend to point participants in the wrong direction. There was also an abundant share of student photographers to document the event.
To the organizers, thank you for the event! I definitely enjoyed :) Hopefully you will improve on your next event!
